A First Look at Alice Ripley and Keaton Whittaker in the Seattle Production of Carrie the Musical

Photos not for the faint of heart.

Alice Ripley, best known for her Tony-winning performance as bipolar mother Diana in Next to Normal, is taking on another unhinged maternal character in Carrie the Musical, with Keaton Whittaker (A Little Night Music) starring alongside Ripley as her daughter in the title role. Balagan Theatre and Seattle Theatre Group are coproducing the musical, with performances scheduled to run October 11-26 at the Moore Theatre.

Adapted from the 1974 horror novel by Stephen King, Carrie tells the story of 17-year-old Carrie White, who is terrorized by both her high school classmates and her fanatically religious mother. After a prom-night prank gone awry, Carrie uses her newly discovered telekinetic powers to wreak havoc on those who have done her wrong.

The musical features a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).

Take a look at a few photos of Ripley and Whittaker in costume as they inhabit these chilling Stephen King characters.
