A Contemporary Theatre Announces 2012 Season

A Contemporary Theatre has announced programming for its 2012 season.

The Mainstage season will open with the second production of ACT’s partnership with The 5th Avenue Theatre, the world premiere of First Date: A New Musical, March 10-May 20, a tuneful treatment of the vicissitudes of the dating scene, with book by Austin Winsberg and music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner. Next will be Lee Hall’s The Pitmen Painters, April 20-May 20, about British coal-miners who discover their artistic abilities. ACT will then bring to the stage Daily Show regular Lewis Black’s happy hatchet-job on a suburban family wedding One Slight Hitch, June 8-July 8.

From ACT’s Central Heating Lab, Pinter Fortnightly heads to the Mainstage to present The Pinter Festival, July 20-August 26, offering audiences four works from the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright’s canon in multiple venues. The world premiere of Trieu Tran: Uncle Ho To Uncle Sam, tells the story of a Vietnamese man’s physical and psychological journey from his war-torn land to the United States, and is written and performed by Trieu Tran, September 7-October 7. Concluding the season, a world premiere production of Ramayana will take over multiple spaces at ACT with an in-house adaptation by ACT’s Affiliate Artist Working Group of the great Indian epic.
