Jasmine Guy, Robin Givens, Kenny Leon, et. al. Receive Suzi Bass Award Nominations

Jasmine Guy, Robin Givens, and Kenny Leon are among the artists who have received nominations for the Suzi Bass Awards, which recognize excellence in Atlanta’s professional theater. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in November.

Guy has been nominated as Lead Actress for her performance in the title role in Miss Evers’ Boys. Givens has been nominated as part of the ensemble cast of for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf, along with Nicole Ari Parker and Crystal Fox.

Leon, nominated for his direction of Miss Evers’ Boys as well as his performance in Blood Knot, is one of several artists nominated across multiple categories. Other multiply nominated artists include Chris Kayser, for his direction of Mauritius and A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Jeff McKerley, who has received nominations for his direction of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and for his choreography of The Pirates of Penzance.

Beast (from Atlantic Lyric Theatre) is one of the five productions recognized as outstanding production of a musical. The other nominees are: Jesus Christ Superstar GOSPEL (Alliance Theatre), Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (Georgia Ensemble Theatre), Big River (Theatrical Outfit), and Black Nativity (True Colors).

Atlanta Lyric Theatre, with 18 nominations, leads among the multiply-nominated organizations, which also include Alliance Theatre, Georgia Shakespeare, and Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company, all of which each received more than ten nominations.
