Woody Allen’s Floating Light Bulb to Be Part of TJT 30th Anniversary Season

Traveling Jewish Theatre has announced its 2008-2009 season, which will celebrate the company’s 30th anniversary. All performances will be held at the company’s San Francisco venue, 470 Florida Street, with the exception of 2 X Malamud, which will be held at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco at Kanbar Hall.

The season will begin with The Last Yiddish Poet, by Corey Fischer, Albert Greenberg, and Naomi Newman, to be presented November 6-December 14. Newman will direct this work about lost Jewish comedians, which will feature Fischer and TJT Artistic Director Aaron Davidman.

The season will continue with 2 X Malamud, featuring Bernard Malamud’s one-acts The Jew Bird, a darkly hilarious fable of assimilation and identity, and The Magic Barrel, about a hapless rabbinical student’s encounter with a mysterious, herring-eating matchmaker. The special program will run three nights only, February 12-15.

Donald Margulies’ The Model Apartment will play February 26-April 5. Amy Glazer will direct this work about a husband and wife in flight from much more than their memories of surviving the Holocaust. The cast will include TJT co-founder Naomi Newman.

The season will conclude with Woody Allen’s The Floating Light Bulb, to be presented April 16-May 24. Nancy Carlin will direct this exploration of love and loneliness in a working-class Jewish family, set in 1945.
