Pearls Over Shanghai: The Cockettes Musical has extended its run at The Hypnodrome through January 23. This original musical by Link Martin (book/lyrics) and Richard “Scrumbly” Koldewyn (music) began performances in June.

The comic mock-operetta was first presented in 1970, and this revival helps to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Cockettes. The show is about white slavery, opium dens, and miscegenation set in the colorful world of 1937 Shanghai.

The cast includes original Cockette Rumi Missabu as Madame Gin Sling along with Connie Champagne, Veronica Klaus, Katya Smirnoff-Skyy, and Leanne Borghesi alternating in the role of Petrushka.

In addition, The Afterglow Floorshow will be presented after each performance in January 2010, during which Koldewyn (an original Cockette) will lead the company in musical numbers from past Cockette’s shows.
