Mike Daisey will premiere his newest work, The Great Tragedies: Mike Daisey Takes On Shakespeare, to conclude California Shakespeare Theater's 40th-anniversary season. The solo show will run from October 2-12 in the Bruns Amphitheater. Jean-Michele Gregory will direct.

The show consists of four separate monologues performed on four separate nights, each focusing on one of Shakespeare's famous tragedies: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, and King Lear. Each unique performance can be viewed independently, while all four together form an epic imbued with Daisey's signature dark humor.

Since his first monologue in 1997, Daisey has created over 20 monologues, including the critically acclaimed The Last Cargo Cult and the controversial How Theater Failed America. Other titles include All the Hours in the Day, All Stories Are Fiction, Great Men of Genius, and 21 Dog Years.

Founded in 1974, California Shakespeare Theater is an award-winning, nationally recognized regional theater that produces seasonal outdoor productions and year-round school and community programs.
