John Douglas Thompson to Play Hamlet at American Conservatory Theater

Works by Harold Pinter and Suzan-Lori Parks will also join the season.

American Conservatory Theater has announced the productions for its 2017-18 season, the final season led by artistic director Carey Perloff.

John Douglas Thompson (Jitney) will star in Shakespeare's Hamlet, with Perloff directing. It will run September 20-October 15. Bess Wohl's Small Mouth Sounds, directed by Rachel Chavkin, will follow, October 11-December 10.

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, adapted by Paul Walsh and Carey Perloff, will run December 1-24, directed by Domenique Lozano. Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party, starring Marco Barricelli, Judith Ivey, and Scott Wentworth, will be directed by Perloff January 10-February 4.

Qui Nguyen's Vietgone, directed by Jaime Castañeda, runs February 21-April 22, and Simon Stephens' Heisenberg, directed by Hal Brooks, runs March 14-April 8. Father Comes Home From the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3), written by Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Liz Diamond, plays April 25-May 20, with Paul Scott Goodman and Pamela Gray's musical A Walk on the Moon, directed by Sheryl Kaller, closes out the season, June 5-July 1.
