The musical Fela! will complete the 2011-2012 SHN season of productions to be offered at San Fracisco’s Orpheum, Curran and Golden Gate Theatres. The show, directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones, with a book by Jim Lewis and Jones, will play the Curran, running November 15 – December 11.

Fela! is about Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s controversial life as artist, political activist, and revolutionary musician. It features his rousing music performed live onstage by Antibalas and other members of the NYC Afrobeat community, under the direction of Aaron Johnson. The production also features musical arrangements and additional music by Johnson and Jordan McLean.

As previously announced, the other productions at the Curran in the coming year will be a revival of Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker (March 28 – April 12), starring Jonathan Pryce, and an engagement of the Tony Award-winning War Horse (August 1-26, 2012).

Other offerings in the SHN season will include Hair (October 25 – November 20, Golden Gate Theatre), and Bring It On: The Musical (December 15 – January 7, Orpheum Theatre), Green Day’s American Idiot (June 12 – July 8, Orpheum), and the 25th anniversary production of Les Miserables (July 10 – August 5, Orpheum).
