Berkeley Repertory Theatre has announced five of the seven plays that will comprise its 2011-2012 season.

The year will begin with Rita Moreno: Life Without Makeup, to run September 2 - October 30 in the company's Roda Theatre. Written by David Galligan and directed by Tony Taccone, the show will focus on the award-winning star's life, in both story and song.

Other offerings in the Roda Theatre will include Christopher Bayes and Steven Epp's adaptation of Moliere's comedy A Doctor in Spite of Himself (February 10 - March 25), about a man who is manipulated into impersonating a brilliant doctor, to be directed by Bales.

The Berkeley Rep's first production for 2011-2012 on its Thrust Stage will be Bill Cain's How to Write a New Book for the Bible (October 7- November 20). Directed by Kent Nicholson, the play centers on a man who moves in with his mother when she becomes too frail to care for herself and finds their reunion heals old wounds.

The Thrust Stage season will also include Jonathan Moscone and Taccone's Ghost Light (January 6 - February 19), a fable for San Francisco based on the assassination of Moscone's father, Mayor George Moscone; and John Logan's portrait of famed painter Mark Rothko, Red (March 16 - April 29), to be directed by Les Waters.
