Telly Leung, Lea Salonga, George Takei to Star in Allegiance at Old Globe

Telly Leung, Lea Salonga, and George Takei will star in the world premiere musical Allegiance at The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, September 6-October 20, 2012, with an opening on September 16. Stafford Arima will direct the production, with musical direction and arrangements by Lynne Shankel and choreography by Christopher Gattelli.

Set during World War II, the musical is about a Japanese American family sent to the Heart Mountain internment camp in Wyoming. The premiere will coincide with the 70th anniversary of the authorization and implementation of the internment camps by President Roosevelt. The show is created by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione with music and lyrics by Kuo.


The design team will include Donyale Werle (set), David Zinn (costumes), Ben Stanton (lighting) and Peter Hylenski (sound).

Leung is currently on Broadway in the revival of Godspell, and is also known for his work as one of the Dalton Academy Warblers on Glee. Salonga won the Tony Award for originating the role of Kim in Miss Saigon, with other Broadway credits including Les Miserables and Flower Drum Song. Takei is best known for playing Sulu on the original Star Trek series and the subsequent films.
