Marion Ross, Playing Queen Elizabeth, to Preside Over Old Globe Open House

The Old Globe will begin its 75th anniversary season of Shakespeare in Balboa Park with an open house, to be held on June 13 from 9:30am to 2:00pm. Presiding over the event will be the theater’s Associate Artist Marion Ross, who will be appearing in the persona of Queen Elizabeth.
The open house will feature backstage tours, costume displays, sword fighting demonstrations, bagpipes, and Elizabethan dances. In addition, there will be a presentation of scenes from the theater’s current season of Shakespeare Festival plays, which will be performed by the repertory company in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre at 11:45am. For young people, the open house will have special crafts, face painting, and circus performances by Lindley Lopez Productions.
Shakespeare was first produced at the Globe in 1935 as part of the California Pacific International Exposition and has been central to the Globe’s mission since that time. During the two years of the Exposition, the Globe presented abbreviated versions of Shakespeare’s plays performed in repertory.
The Old Globe’s 75th season of Shakespeare in Balboa Park will include King Lear (June 12 – Sept. 23), The Taming of the Shrew (June 16 – Sept. 26), and The Madness of George III (June 19 – Sept. 24).
