Chester Gregory II, Christopher Hanke, Harriet Harris, Carly Jibson, James Snyder, and Elizabeth Stanley will be among the cast of the new musical Cry-Baby, which will premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse November 6-December 16, with an anticipated Broadway transfer in March at a theater to be announced.

The musical, based on the 1990 John Waters film of the same title, will be directed by Mark Brokaw, with choreography by Rob Ashford. It features a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan and a score by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger. This spoof of 1950s films is set in 1954 Baltimore, where Wade “Cry Baby” Walker, the baddest boy in town, falls for a local good girl.

The show will also star Cameron Adams, Ashley Amber, Nick Blaemire, Michael Buchanan, Eric Christian, Colin Cunliffe, Joanna Glushak, Michael Jablonski, Lacey Kohl, Marty Lawson, Spencer Liff, Alli Mauzey, Courtney Laine Mazza, Mayumi Miguel, Cristen Page, Richard Poe, Torrey Ross, Eric Sciotto, Peter Matthew Smith, Allison Spratt, Charlie Sutton, and Stacey Todd Holt.

Snyder, who will play the title role, has appeared in films such as She’s the Man, Pretty Persuasion, and the forthcoming An American in China. Stanley, who will play Allison, appeared in the Broadway revival of Company as April and as Lorelei Lee in the recent Gateway Playhouse production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Harris, who will play Mrs. Vernon-Williams, received the Tony Award for Thoroughly Modern Millie and most recently starred on Broadway in Old Acquaintance. Gregory, who will play Dupree, has starred on Broadway in Tarzan and Hairspray. Hanke, who will play Baldwin, starred on Broadway in In My Life and Rent. Jibson, who will play Pepper, starred as Tracy in the national tour and Broadway production of Hairspray.
