Cherise Boothe, Angela Lewis, Tonya Pinkins, et al. Set for La Jolla Playhouse’s Milk Like Sugar

La Jolla Playhouse has announced casting for Kirsten Greenidge’s Milk Like Sugar, to run August 30 – September 25 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. Rebecca Taichman will direct the production.


The play concerns a 16-year-old, inner-city girl’s struggle between the pregnancy pact she made with her friends and her need to carve out a life beyond the only one she knows.

The company will feature Cherise Boothe as Talisha, Angela Lewis as Annie, Nikiya Mathis as Margie, LeRoy McClain as Antwoine, J. Mallory-McCree as Malik, Adrienne C. Moore as Keera and Tonya Pinkins as Myrna.

The creative team will include Mimi Lien (scenic design), Toni Leslie James (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), and Andre Pluess (sound design).
