Casting has been announced for San Diego Repertory’s production of the Bertolt Brecht-Kurt Weill musical, The Threepenny Opera, set to run February 28-March 29, with an official opening of March 6. Sam Woodhouse will direct.

This re-imagining of The Beggars Opera follows Macheath, “Mack the Knife,” a notorious thief, pimp, and murderer who marries Polly, the daughter of Jonathan Peachum. This dubious wedding sparks a underworld power struggle, the show’s social and political critique of Victorian London.

Jeffrey Meek will play Macheath with Lyle Kanouse as Jonathan Peachum. The cast will also feature Leigh Scarritt, Lisa Payton, Amanda Kramer, Gale McNeeley, and Amy Biedel. The creative team will include Mark Danisovszky (musical direction), Jennifer Brawn Gittings (costume design), Tom Jones (sound design), Giulio Perrone (set design), Trevor Norton (lighting design), and Javier Velasco (choreography).
