Harris Doran, Tina Fabrique, Deirdre Madigan, et al. Set for Pittsburgh Public Theater’s 2009-2010 Season

Additional casting has been announced for several shows in the Pittsburgh Public Theater‘s 2009-2010 season.

As previously announced, Tina Fabrique will star as Ella Fitzgerald in Ella, and she will now be joined by Harold Dixon who will play Fitzgerald’s manager Norman Granz. Ella, conceived by Rob Ruggiero and Dyke Garrison, and featuring a book by Jeffrey Hatcher, musical direction and arrangements by Danny Holgate, and direction by Ruggiero, will run October 1 – November 1.

The complete cast for the theater’s production of The Little Foxes (November 12-December 13), directed by PPT producing artistic director Ted Pappas, has also been announced. As previously reported Helena Ruoti will play the lead role of Regina in Lillian Hellman’s tale of the Hubbard clan living in 1900 in the New South. Joining her will be Deirdre Madigan, Ross Bickell, Lara Hillier, Michael McKenzie, John Shepard, Chris Landis, Linda Haston, Wali Jamal, and Philip Winters.

The Pittsburgh Public Theater’s season will also see an appearance from The Second City, which will make a 50th anniversary tour stop, December 17-19, with a best of show featuring the company’s legendary sketch comedy and improvisation — including pieces by alumni Alan Arkin, Robert Klein, Bill Murray, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, and more.

There will be a special engagement of The Chief (January 6-10), written by Rob Zellers & Gene Collier, and celebrating the life and legacy of Pittsburgh Steelers founder, Art Rooney, Sr. Pappas will direct Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, January 21-February 21, featuring Harris Doran as Puck and John Ahlin as Bottom. Arthur Miller’s The Price will replace the previously announced Talley’s Folly, March 4-April 4. Tracy Brigden will direct.

John Tillinger will direct Alan Ayckbourn’s Time of My Life (April 15-May 16), a family gathering with characters seen from different temporal perspectives. The season will conclude with Yasmina Reza’s Art (May 27-June 27), directed by Pappas, and about three men whose friendship is challenged when one of them buys an expensive all-white painting.
