The solo show, Liberace! begins tonight at Walnut Street Theatre. Centering on the famous and infamous showman, the production highlights the highs and lows of Liberace’s life. From the his beginnings in classical training with a flair for the dramatic, to his success after The Liberace Show began to air, the play seeks to examine the man behind the rhinestones and transcend the critics. Most of all, it strives to answer the question: "Who was the real person behind the persona, one of the most talented and acclaimed performers of the 20th century?"

The production is written and directed by Brent Hazelton. It features Jack Forbes Wilson as the title character.

Playwright and director Brent Hazelton says, "My goal in telling [Liberace’s] story, was to reach for something honest, real, balanced, and fundamentally human…to reach back to that initial fascination with my own discovery of Liberace as something other than a drag clown in millions of sequins and a couple hundred pounds of seashells or feathers, and find the real guy."

The creative team includes Scott Parker (light design), Scott Davis (set design), Alex Tacoma (costume design), Nicholas Gackenbach (sound design), and Angela Cucco (stage manager).

Performances will run through April 12.
