Wayne Wilcox to Star in InViolet Theater Company's Sommerfugl

The new play is inspired by the true story of Lili Elbe, the first person to have gender reassignment surgery in 1930.

InViolet Theater Company has announced plans to present Bixby Elliot's new play Sommergufl. The production will begin previews September 19 at the 4th Street Theatre with a run scheduled through October 10. An official opening is set for September 24. Stephen Brackett (Buyer & Cellar) directs.

Sommerfugl is inspired by the true story of Lili Elbe, the first person to have gender reassignment surgery in 1930. The play follows Elbe and her wife, Grete, who remained by her side until the end.

The cast of Sommerfugl includes Wayne Wilcox, Aubyn Philabaum, Michelle David, and Bernardo Cubria. The production features set design by Jason Sherwood, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Zach Blane, and sound design by Stowe Nelson.

Incidentally, Oscar and Tony winner Eddie Redmayne portrays Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl, a film version of her story, set for a theatrical release of November 27.
