Ping Chong Company's Alaxsxa / Alaska is currently in performances at La MaMa E.T.C.'s Downstairs Theater. The production's limited run continue through October 29.

Created by Ping Chong, Ryan Conarro, Justin Perkins, and Gary Upay'aq Beaver, and directed by Chong and Conarro, Alaxsxa / Alaska is described as "a theatrical collage of multimedia, puppetry, and Central Yup'ik drum and dance, illuminating striking moments of cross-cultural encounter in the epic, changing landscapes of Alaska. The three performers use movement and puppetry to reveal a series of little-known historical narratives of collisions between people and cultures in Alaska. These histories — at times humorous, at times tragic — juxtapose against Beaver and Conarro’s own personal memories as 'insider' and 'outsider' in the Last Frontier."

Check out photos from the production in the gallery below.

The creative team features Justin Perkins (puppet and object design), Lucy Peckham (sound design), Kate Freer (video and projection design), Marika Kent (lighting design), Seth Kirby (screen design), Stefani Mar (costume design), and (mask design) Philip Charette. Yuraq songs, music, and dance are by Gary Upay'aq Beaver and Wassilie Berlin Sr.
