Pulitzer Winner Annie Baker's John to Star Christopher Abbott, Georgia Engel, and More

The world premiere play opens Signature Theatre’s 2015-16 season.

Signature Theatre has announced casting for the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Baker's new play John, directed by Tony winner Sam Gold (Fun Home). Performances will run from July 22-August 30 with an August 11 opening night in the Irene Diamond Stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center.

The first play of Baker's Signature residency, John is described as follows:

"The week after Thanksgiving. A Bed & Breakfast in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. A cheerful innkeeper. A young couple struggling to stay together. Thousands of inanimate objects, watching."

The cast will feature Christopher Abbott (HBO’s Girls) as Elias, Hong Chau (A to Z) as Jenny, five-time Emmy Award nominee Georgia Engel (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) as Mertis, and Tony Award nominee Lois Smith (Signature’s The Trip to Bountiful) as Genevieve.

The design team includes Mimi Lien (scenic design), Ásta Bennie Hostetter (costume design), Mark Barton (lighting design), Bray Poor (sound design).
