Phoebe Legere's Speed Queen will receive its world premiere at Dixon Place under the direction of Lissa Moira. Written and performed by Legere, the production will preview on March 7, open March 9, and play March 15-17 and 23-24.

Speed Queen honors one of the most courageous foremothers in the struggle for gay liberation and transgender equality, Marion Barbara "Joe" Carstairs. Carstairs's refusal to hide her true identity as a transgender person resonates with Legere and serves as a backdrop to the play's story of heartbreak, heroism, and love.

Legere is a performance artist, author, multi-instrumentalist, artist, and community organizer. Her work was named a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in music in 2001.
