New York Theatre Workshop Announces Casting for An Ordinary Muslim

New York Theatre Workshop has announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere of An Ordinary Muslim, written by Hammaad Chaudry and directed by Jo Bonney. The play is scheduled to run February 7-March 11, with opening night set for February 26 at New York Theatre Workshop.

The cast of An Ordinary Muslim includes Purva Bedi as Saima Khan, Angel Desai as Javeria Bhatti-Mirza, Sanjit De Silva as Azeem Bhatti, Andrew Hovelson as David Adkins, Harsh Nayyar as Irman Jameel, Sathya Sridharan as Hamza Jameel, Bernard White as Akeel Bhatti, and Rita Wolf as Malika Bhatti.

The plot is described as follows: "Balancing the high expectations of the previous generation, the doctrines of their Muslim community, and the demands of secular Western culture, Azeem Bhatti and his wife Saima struggle to straddle the gap between their Pakistani heritage and their British upbringing."

The production will feature scenic design by Neil Patel, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, sound design by Elisheba Ittoop, and fight direction by Thomas Schall. Stephen Gabis will serve as dialect coach.
