MCC Cancels Upcoming Production of Neil LaBute's Reasons to Be Pretty Happy

The theater has also ended the dramatist’s tenure as playwright in residence.

MCC Theater has canceled its upcoming production of Neil LaBute's Reasons to Be Pretty Happy, the company has announced.

In a statement, the theater said: "MCC Theater is canceling the upcoming production of Reasons to be Pretty Happy by Neil LaBute and is terminating his tenure as its playwright-in-residence, effective immediately. The theater will be announcing a new play to complete the current season in the coming weeks." The production was scheduled to run August 16-September 23. Thus far, MCC Theater has provided no official details about the reason for LaBute's termination.

Ten of LaBute's plays have been produced by the company, including the well-known original productions of Fat Pig, Some Girl(s), and Reasons to Be Pretty.
