Ernest Shackleton Loves Me opened last night, Sunday, May 7, at the Tony Kiser Theater. The new musical is directed by Lisa Peterson and written by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro (Memphis), with music composed by Brendan Milburn and lyrics by Valerie Vigoda. Performances continue through June 11.

Ernest Shackleton Loves Me is described as an "innovative, high-tech adventure" that "tells the story of a sleep-deprived single mom who struggles to work as a video game music composer. Unexpectedly, she is contacted across time by the famous polar explorer Ernest Shackleton. Inspired by her music, he shares his epic Antarctic journey with her in video and song." Electro-violinist Valerie Vigoda and Wade McCollum (Wicked) star in the production.

The creative team includes Alexander V. Nichols (production design), Chelsea Cook (costume design), Rob Kaplowitz (sound design and original compositions). The show was originally co-commissioned by Theatre Works and La Jolla Playhouse.
