In the second of this year’s semiannual Playmaking series, the 52nd Street Project will join the voices of Hell’s Kitchen kids with the voices of Bobby Cannavale, Edie Falco, Frank Wood, and others in its upcoming production, Larger Than Life: The Supersized Plays. The show will run from December 11-13 at the 52nd Street Project’s Five Angels Theater on Tenth Avenue. Performances will take place on Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, and on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.

After a nine-week playwriting course, a "writer’s retreat" in the countryside, and the completion of their own one-acts, the children are paired with professional casts to bring their visions to life, culminating in a run of public performances. Along with Cannavale, Falco, and Wood, other adult performers include Jose Aguila, Lisa Benavides-Nelson, Jonathan Bock, Nehassaiu DeGannes, Bjorn DuPaty, Ceci Fernandez, Carl Hendrick Louis, Mozhan Marnó, Bhavesh Patel, Carra Patterson, Joe Paulik, Mallory Portnoy, Annie Purcell, Jeanine Serralles, and Joe Tapper. The adult dramaturge-directors are Chelsea Hackett, Korey Jackson, Garrett Kim, Sarah Krohn, Kareem Lucas, Rebecca Martinez, Alexandra O'Daly, John Sheehy, Jeremy Stoller, and Emma Weinstein. The show will also feature original music, composed by Avi Amon.

Founded in 1981 by actor and playwright Willie Reale, the 52nd Street Project has since evolved into an independent not-for-profit organization that creates more than 80 plays per year, involving and inspiring more than 130 children in the process. The goal of the project is not to "teach" the children how to act, write, or "be" theater artists, but rather to give them opportunities to accomplish and create work that they can be proud of. With successful and talented actors like Cannavale, Falco, and Wood supporting them and sharing their expertise, the children ultimately will learn that they too can find success and satisfaction in the arts.
