Be More Chill Previews Show for the Press Ahead of Off-Broadway Premiere

Will Roland and George Salazar star in this Stephen Brackett-helmed adaptation of Ned Vizzini’s novel.

The company of the off-Broadway premiere of Be More Chill gave the press a preview of the show today at the Pershing Square Signature Center's rehearsal studios. Set to begin performances July 26, Be More Chill features music and lyrics by Joe Iconis, and a book by Joe Tracz. The show is based on the novel by Ned Vizzini. Opening night is set for August 9, and performances will continue through September 23.

Featured in the cast are Gerard Canonico (Spring Awakening) as Rich, Katlyn Carlson (Dirty Dancing) as Chloe, Stephanie Hsu (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Christine, Tiffany Mann (Waitress) as Jenna, Lauren Marcus (The Humans at St. Louis Rep) as Brooke, George Salazar (Tick, Tick…BOOM!) as Michael, Will Roland (Dear Evan Hansen) as Jeremy, Britton Smith (Shuffle Along) as Jake, Jason Tam (If/Then) as The Squip, and Jason SweetTooth Williams (Freaky Friday) as Jeremy's Dad and Mr. Reyes. Cameron Bond, Troy Iwata, and Talia Suskauer are the company swings.

Be More Chill is described as follows: "Jeremy Heere is your average, nothing-special teenager at Middleborough High in nothing-special New Jersey…until the day he finds out about 'The Squip.' Thus begins a journey that pits Jeremy's desire to be popular against his struggle to remain true to his authentic self."

The New York premiere of Be More Chill is directed by Stephen Brackett and choreographed by Chase Brock in its limited nine-week, off-Broadway engagement. Performances will be at the Irene Diamond Stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center, opening August 9.

Be More Chill had its world premiere in an extended run at Two River Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey.
