American Idol‘s Sanjaya Malakar to Join Off-Broadway’s Freckleface Strawberry Musical

American Idol veteran Sanjaya Malakar will join the cast of the Off-Broadway family musical, Freckleface Strawberry, performing at New World Stages, beginning with the February 23 performance.

The show is based on the popular children’s book by Julianne Moore and has music and lyrics by Gary Kupper and book by Kupper and Rose Caiola. Buddy Crutchfield directs with Gail Pennington Crutchfield providing choreography.

The musical focuses on a young woman who has to learn to accept the freckles on her face, for which she is unmercifully teased by classmates. The cast also features Remy Zaken as Strawberry along with Julia Bray, Andrew Cristi, Linda Gabler, and Kimiko Glenn, and Mykal Kilgore.
