59E59 Theaters announces lineup for the 2016-17 5A Season

New works by Hershey Felder, Bruce Graham, and more will play at the off-Broadway theater.

59E59 Theaters has announced shows planned for its 2016-17 5A subscription series season, presenting three new plays and two new musicals from across the U.S.

Kicking off the 5A Season will be Butler (July 14-August 28), a comic historical drama that recently enjoyed its world premiere at New Jersey Repertory Company. Butler's director will be announced at a later date.

The season will continue with Hershey Felder's Leonard Bernstein musical bioplay Maestro (September 1-October 16), directed by Joel Zwick; the world premiere of the musical Damon Runyon’s Madame La Gimp (October 24-December 4), featuring a book by Giles Havergal and Derek McCulloch, lyrics by Mr. McCulloch, music by Kyle Athayde, with arrangements and orchestrations by Peter and Will Anderson. Amanda Dehnert will direct Madame La Gimp.

Thirty puppets will take the stage in Wakka Wakka’s Made in China (January 11-February 28), which is written by Kirjan Waage and Gwendolyn Warnock, with help from the Wakka Ensemble. Kirjan Waage and Gwendolyn Warnock will helm the production. Finally, writer Bruce Graham and director Bud Martin will present White Guy on a Bus (March 7-April 16).
