Tony Award winner Shirley Knight will star in David Schweizer’s production of Tennessee Williams’ In Masks Outrageous and Austere, to run April 5 – May 26 at the Culture Project at 45 Bleecker. Additional casting and creative team will be announced shortly.

The play, written between 1979 and Williams’ death in 1983, examines many of the themes and subjects that are familiar from his more well-known plays, including the impenetrability of the human heart, the futility and hypocrisy of denying or displacing physical attraction, and the power of love and its tyranny.

Knight won the Tony Award for Kennedy’s Children and last appeared on Broadway in The Young Man from Atlanta. She appeared in the film version of WIlliams’ Sweet Bird of Youth and received an Oscar nomination for The Dark at the Top of the Stairs.
