Richard Thomas will play the title role in Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens, February 15 – March 6 at the Public Theater. Barry Edelstein will direct the play, which will be the inaugural offering in the newly established Public LAB Shakespeare program, which will allow the theater to explore works by the Bard in scaled-down productions.

Thomas was recently seen on Broadway in David Mamet’s Race. Among his other Broadway credits are Sunrise at Campobello, Strange Interlude, The Playroom, Everything in the Garden, Fifth of July, The Front Page, Democracy, and A Naked Girl On The Appian Way. In addition, he received an Emmy Award for his work on The Waltons.

Shakespeare’s play, set in ancient Greece, explores the ways in which money has the potential to influence (and corrupt) human interaction. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The creative team will include Neil Patel (scenic design), Katherine Roth (costume design), Russell Champa (lighting design), and Curtis Moore (original music).
