Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss will visit Kean University on Monday, March 5 to take part in the university's Premiere Artists series.

Dreyfuss will begin his day with an hour-long lecture at 2pm about the importance of civics education in public schools, for the Department of History and the Kean University Center for History, Politics, and Policy. From 3:20pm to 4:20pm, the actor will lead a discussion with Kean Department of Theatre students, moderated by Premiere Stages producing artistic director John Wooten.

The day will culminate in a staged reading of Frederic Morton's play The Commandant, in which Dreyfuss will star. Set at the end of World War II, the play is described as the story of a "famous Austrian-Jewish actor who is offered the role of a lifetime by a concentration camp commandant." The Department of Jewish Studies and World Affairs, the Kean Masters Program in Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and the Holocaust Resource Center produce the reading.

Reservations are required for each event, though admission is free and seating is limited. Donations will be accepted at the reading for the Hannah Senesh Annual Humanitarian Fellowship, which lends support to students earning a Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

Premiere Artists is a project of Premiere Stages, the professional Actors' Equity Association theater-in-residence at Kean. The program features high-profile guest artists who conduct master classes with students and participate in question-and-answer sessions with the campus community.
