The Zagat company, well known for its surveys of New York City restaurants, has now begun a new venture: surveying New York theater.
Beginning today (February 11) and running through March 4, visitors to the survey section of the Zagat website, www.zagat.com/survey, may provide their opinions about shows currently playing on and off Broadway. Users’ comments and ratings will be used to create a new weekly column in The Wall Street Journal as well as a stand-alone booklet similar to the Zagat restaurant guide. According to a Zagat spokesperson, the theater guide will be updated “more than once a year,” but it hasn’t yet been determined just how frequently it will be published.
The Zagat theater guide will also contain information regarding ticket prices and more. The first issue is scheduled to appear in late spring and early survey participants will receive a free copy of the guide once it becomes available.
