WSC/Avant Bard is set to host a free staged reading of Richard Byrne’s Nero/Pseudo, May 30 at 8pm at Artisphere – Dome Theatre. Artistic director of Theater Alliance Colin Hovde will direct.

Nero/Pseudo examines political cults of celebrity and relies on a newly-imagined version of Nero’s famous poem on the Fall of Troy. Since all but three lines of the original poem have been lost, Chicago rock luminaries Jon Langford and Jim Elkington, who play original live music for the show, have created their own version.

The cast will feature Bradley Smith, Kari Ginsburg, Ian Armstrong, James Finley, Mundy Spears, Nathan Mendez, and Heather Haney.

The reading is presented as part of WSC/AvantBard’s spring repertory productions of Euripides’ The Bacchae and Sam Shepard’s The Tooth of Crime, which runs until July 1.
