Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced the two plays that will comprise its 2011-2012 season for young adults.
The first offering in the series will be Rebecca Gilman’s adaptation of Carson McCullers’ novel, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, to run October 11 – November 4. Hallie Gordon will direct this piece that centers on a deaf mute man and four other lonesome residents of a boarding house in a Georgia mill town during the 1930s.
In addition, Steppenwolf will produce Sarah Gubbins’ fml: how Carson McCullers saved my life, to run February 28 – March 18. Directed by Joanie Schultz, this new play focuses on a teenager in a Chicago suburb who, as she grapples with her sexuality, finds solace in Carson McCullers’ famed novel and kinship to her characters.
