The line-up has been announced for the 2011 Brits Off Broadway Festival, which will be presented at 59E59 Theaters, November 1-January 1.
Among the highlights is the New York premiere of Alan Ayckbourn’s Neighborhood Watch (November 30-January 1), which will be directed by the playwright. The play centers on a brother and sister whose well intentioned neighborhood watch scheme in their suburban neighborhood soon develops into something altogether more sinister. The cast will include Eileen Battye, Terence Booth, Phil Cheadle, Matthew Cottle, Richard Derrington, Frances Grey, Amy Loughton and Alexandra Mathie.
Another highlight is an adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s Farm Boy (December 6-January 1), a sequel to the novelist’s War Horse. Adapted and directed by Daniel Buckroyd, the play centers on the bonds between grandfather and grandson, and is described as “a moving account of the changing face of the English countryside.” It stars John Walters and Richard Pryal.
The festival will kick off with Three British Solos (November 1-20), consisting of Jack Thorne’s Bunny, directed by Joe Murphy and featuring Rosie Wyatt; Nicholas Pierpan’s The Maddening Rain, directed by Matthew Dunster and featuring Felix Scott; and James Gaddas’ Shadow Boxing, directed by Donald Pulford and featuring Jonny Collis-Scurll.
Other works in the festival include BBC New Comedy Award-winner Nina Conti’s Talk to the Hand (November 8-13), also featuring the sassy Granny and the sardonic Monkey; George Orwell’s Burmese Days (November 9-December 4), adapted and directed by Ryan Kiggell With Charlotte Allam, Amerjit Deu, Ryan Kiggell, Zak Shukor, Elisa Terren and Jamie Zubairi; Tony Earnshaw’s The Door (November 22-December 11), directed by Anna Lewis With Tom Cobley and Chris Westgate; and Robert Farquhar’s Kissing Sid James (December 13-January 1), directed by Jason Lawson With Alan Drake and
Charlotte McKinney.
