The Cooper Union’s CooperArts program will kick off its spring 2003 season with a performance of songs from the musical God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater on Friday, March 7.
Based on the novel by Kurt Vonnegut, the show features music and lyrics by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, who wrote the score for the long-running Off-Broadway hit Little Shop of Horrors (set for a Broadway production this summer) as well as the Disney animated films Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin. This concert version of Rosewater will be staged by Peter Flynn (last year’s Funny Girl benefit concert), with musical direction by Jimmy Roberts (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) and musical coordination by Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Parade).
The concert will star Jim Walton (Crazy for You, Merrily We Roll Along) as Eliot Rosewater, Carolee Carmello (Kiss Me, Kate, Parade) as Sylvia Rosewater, and David Pittu (Company at the Kennedy Center, the national tour of Parade) as Norman Mushari. The cast also includes Bambi Jones, Keith Byron Kirk, Randy Redd, and Robin Skye.
The performance will begin at 7:30 pm on March 7 in Cooper Union’s Great Hall (East 7th Street at Third Avenue). Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for students and seniors; they may be purchased by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200.
