Two-time Tony Award winner Viola Davis and stage and screen star Maggie Gyllenhaal will co-star in the film, Still I Rise, according to Deadline.com. Daniel Barnz, who most recently directed Beastly, will helm the film.
The film is about two mothers who channel frustration into action and join forces to transform an inner-city public school.
Davis won Tony Awards for Fences and Seven Guitars. She received an Academy Award nomination for her role in the film version of John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt and will be seen on the big screen later this year in The Help.
Gyllenhaal’s stage credits include the Classic Stage Company’s productions of Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya, and the BAM production of Tony Kushner’s Homebody/Kabul. She received an Oscar nomination for Crazy Heart and will be seen on the big screen in Hysteria.
