Video Installation by Rashaad Newsome to Be Featured in Restored New York City Center

| New York City |

October 11, 2011

Rashaad Newsome will be the first artist featured in a video display wall located in the lobby of the newly restored and revitalized New York City Center when it reopens this October.

The wall will feature six 36″ x 80″ high-definition plasma monitors visible to pedestrians on 55th Street through new glass doorways. It will showcase an evolving roster of video content, with the first three installations curated by The New Museum.

Newsome’s video and performance works explore the dynamics of culturally specific material from a diverse range of sources. The videos at City Center will include contemporary vogue dancers, whose movements are isolated, abstracted, remixed, and reframed to choreograph a new dance.

As previously reported, Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall will direct the October 25 gala reopening of New York City Center, which will feature Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Joshua Bell, Matthew Broderick, Barbara Cook, Denyce Graves, Patti LuPone, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Donna Murphy, New York City Ballet, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Brian Williams.
