Ford’s Theatre and Lincoln Museum Reopen in D.C.

Following a series of renovations totalling $2.5 million, Washington, D.C.’s Ford’s Theatre and Lincoln Museum will officially reopen on Tuesday, October 7.

The theater was closed during the summers of 2002 and 2003 for improvements in heating, cooling, ventilation, and fire detection and suppression, as well as installation of a new sound system. The theater recently began its 2003-2004 season with a production of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath that will run through November 15.

The museum was closed for more than a year, during which time its artifacts and memorabilia relating to the life and assassination of Abraham Lincoln were restored and stabilzed. Now included in the museum is a tribute to the founder of Ford’s Theatre, Frankie Hewitt, who died in February.
