Joel Grey celebrated his birthday and the opening of his new exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York,
Joel Grey / A New York Life, on Tuesday, April 12.
The exhibition includes photographs, posters, playbills, and costumes from several of Grey’s productions, including the iconic Emcee costume from Cabaret, a crown worn in Goodtime Charley, and an original costume sketch for George M! In addition, original caricatures of Grey by Al Hirschfeld will also be on view as will selections from Grey’s extensive work as a photographer of New York.
Grey is currently starring on Broadway in Anything Goes, and co-directing the Broadway production of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart. The actor won a Tony Award for his performance in Cabaret, and also won the Academy Award for the film version of the musical.
Among the guests at the exhibition’s opening were Grey’s daughter, Jennifer Grey and her husband Clark Gregg; Anything Goes director Kathleen Marshall and cast members Joyce Chittick, Laura Osnes, and Jessica Walter; Normal Heart producer Daryl Roth and actor Wayne Alan Wilcox; Tony Award winners Ron Leibman and Ben Vereen; and actor/playwright Bob Balaban.
