The cast and creators of Memphis celebrated the production’s second anniversary on Broadway with a post-performance party at Glass House Tavern Wednesday, October 19.
Memphis, which is playing at the Shubert Theatre, is based on a concept by George W. George and features book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, music and lyrics by David Bryan, direction by Christopher Ashley, choreography by Sergio Trujillo, and orchestrations by Daryl Waters. It won four 2010 Tony Awards, for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestrations.
Set in the segregated South of the 1950s, the show follows the fictionalized life story of white radio disc jockey Huey Calhoon, who falls in love with both rock & roll and an electrifying black singer, Felicia Farrell.
The production currently stars Montego Glover and Chad Kimball, both of whom received Tony Award nominations for their performances. As previously reported, Kimball will play his final performance in the show on October 23, with Adam Pascal taking over the role on October 25.
In addition to Glover and Kimball, many of the show’s current cast members and alumni attended the celebration, as did guests such as actor Jack Noseworthy.
