Last evening saw the Broadway opening of Monty Python’s Spamalot, the rudely hilarious new musical inspired by the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. (To access David Finkle’s review of the show, click here.) Our photographer was on hand for the arrivals at the Shubert Theatre and for the after-party at Roseland. Pictured here are (l-r) original Python Eric Idle and three of the stars of Spamalot: Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, and Hank Azaria.
Here’s the gorgeous Sara Ramirez, who plays The Lady of the Lake in the show.
Here’s Idle again with two more of Spamalot‘s stars, Christopher Sieber (left) and Christian Borle (center).
Seen here in a jubilant mood are (l-r) original Pythons Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, and John Cleese.
Here is Spamalot director Mike Nichols and his wife, Diane Sawyer.
Elaine May, who for years was part of a legendary comedy duo with Mike Nichols, attended her old partner’s opening.
Also caught by our photog: Steve Martin, who was obviously very happy to have scored a ticket for Spamalot.
Among the many other notables on hand to hail Spamalot: Cicely Tyson, who may currently be seen in the movie Diary of a Mad Black Woman…
…Ellen Barkin, one of the stars of the upcoming film Trust the Man…
Anna Deavere Smith, recently seen on the big screen in The Manchurian Candidate and on the small screen in The West Wing…
…Craig Bierko, one of the stars of the Off-Broadway comedy Modern Orthodox…
…the ever-beautiful Lauren Hutton…
…Candace Bergen, a.k.a. Murphy Brown, who has returned to series TV in Boston Legal…
…and opera star Renée Fleming with family in tow.
