Line-Up Announced for International Hispanic Theatre Festival in Miami
Los Angeles-based Urban Theatre Movement will kick off the festival on July 12 and 13 with Miguel Piñero’s play Short Eyes, performed in English at the Carnival Studio Theater at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.
From July 13-14, Prometeo Theatre will present Infieles (Unfaithful) by Marco Antonio de la Parra in the Wolfson Auditorium. Los-Angeles based Latino Theater Company will perform Evelina Fernandez’s Solitude, based on Octavio Paz’s The Labyrinth of Solitude in English on July 14 and 15. New York’s Teatro Zero will present Diana Chery-Ramírez’s Aviones de papel (Paper Airplanes) from July 20-21.
International companies include Buenos Aires’ Flor de Un Día, which will present the musical theater piece Nada del amor me produce envidia (Nothing About Love Produces Envy) from July 18-19; Mexico City’s La Máquina de Teatro, which will present Juliana Faesler’s Malinche/Malinches on July 19 and 20; Bogota, Columbia’s Arte & Friends production of Ella en mi cabeza (She’s On My Mind) by Oscar Martinez on July 21 and 22; and Ecuador’s Contra el Viento Teatre will present Patricio Vallejo Aristizábal’s La flor de la Chukirawa (The Flower of Chukirawa) from July 27-28.
The festival will close with Virgilio Piñero’s El no (The No), adapted by Gilda Santana, and directed by festival artistic director Mario Ernesto Sánchez.
