Lina Abiad, Korhan Basaran, Olga Pozeli for Between the Seas Festival of Mediterranean Performing Arts

Between the Seas Festival of Mediterranean Performing Arts has announced its upcoming festival program, to run August 20-26 at The Wild Project.

The festival’s theater events will feature Greek director/performer Olga Pozeli in a solo performance exploring the limits of political corruption; Lebanese director Lina Abiad with performer Amahl Kouri in I.D., a new performance piece engaging with the theme of transgender identities in the Mediterranean; and Sabine Choucair and Chantal Mailhac in Whispered Tales, a performance with traditional music and songs and Lebanese coffee.

Dance highlights will include Turkish choreographer Korhan Basaran’s nw work Rau; Israeli choreographers and dancers Rachel Erdos/Ido Tadmor and Noa Dar’s And Mr. and Arnica; and Mancopy Dance Company from Denmark and their newest collaboration with dancers from Lebanon, Egypt and Palestine.

Other events will include staged readings by M. Karimi-Hakak and K. Fahmy and a free screening of The Glass Wall, a documentary by Iranian-American filmmaker and theater artist Mahmood Karimi-Hakak on the Palestine-Israel cultural divide.
