Justin Lin will direct and produce a film version of David Henry Hwang‘s play, Chinglish, for his company, Barnstorm Pictures.

The play, which premiered at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre prior to a Broadway run at the Longacre Theatre earlier this season, concerns an American businessman who travels to China hoping to make an important deal and finds himself enmeshed in a system more complex than he ever imagined.

As previously reported, Chinglish will be presented at Berkeley Repertory Theatre this fall, and an international tour is also being planned.

Lin is best known for directing the films in Universal’s Fast and Furious franchise. Additional directorial credits include the films, Better Luck Tomorrow and Annapolis.
