Debbie Allen, Avery Brooks, Joe Coleman, and Lynda Gravatt will be the guest artists for Howard University’s Steppin’ Out of the Negro Caravan, to be presented in the historic Ira Aldridge Theater on Friday, April 20, at 8pm.
George Faison directs this journey through black literature, drawing from the works of writers such as Phyllis Wheatley, Jupiter Hammon, and Richard Wright.
The four guest artists will be joined by students from the Department of Theatre Arts. The production commemorates the seventy-first anniversary of the groundbreaking anthology of Professors Sterling A. Brown, Arthur P. Davis, and Ulysses Lee, and honors Howard University’s continually prescient scholarship.
