Playwright Amy Herzog was among the recipients of a 2011 Whiting Writers’ Award, which was presented to her at a ceremony at the Times Center in New York City on Tuesday, October 25.
The award, which comes with a cash prize of $500,000, is given to writers of exceptional talent and promise in early career. Additional 2011 recipients include Scott Blackwood, fiction; Ryan Call, fiction; Don Mee Choi, poetry; Paul Clemens, nonfiction; Eduardo C. Corral, poetry;
Daniel Orozco, fiction; Shane McCrae, poetry; Teddy Wayne, fiction; and Kerri Webster, poetry.
Herzog’s plays include After the Revolution and 4,000 Miles, as well as her latest play, Belleville, which opens this month at the Yale Repertory Theater.
