A Red Orchid Theatre has announced its 2012-2013 season.
The season will open with the world premiere of The Opponent (October 18-December 2) by Ensemble Member Brett Neveu. Directed by Karen Kessler, this look at the hard world of boxing will feature founding artistic Guy VanSwearingen. Then, A Red Orchid will present the Chicago premiere of Annie Baker’s The Aliens (January 17-March 3), a play about a summer when no one moves but everything changes, directed by Shade Murray and featuring Steve Haggard.
In the spring will be the Chicago premiere of In A Garden (April 4-May 19) by Howard Korder, in which an ambitious American architect is summoned to the fictitious Middle Eastern country of Aquaat where the Minister of Culture commissions him to build a thing of beauty, featuring Larry Grimm. As the season comes to a close, Dado will direct Sam Shepard’s play about the slippery netherworld of thoroughbred racing Simpatico (June 13-July 28), featuring Michael Shannon and Guy VanSwearingen.
