3Arts awarded 12 Chicago artists $15,000 to use according to their individual needs and priorities in their 2011 3Arts Artist Awards on October 3.
The awardees were composers Regina Harris Baiocchi and Nicole Mitchell, singer/songwriter Ami Saraiya, costume designer Alison Siple, actor Jacqueline Williams, actor Kareem Bandealy, visual artist Alberto Aguilar, photographer Lisa Lindvay, sound artist Norman W. Long; as well as teaching artists JoVia Armstrong (percussionist, songwriter), Regin Igloria (art), and Mirtes Zwierzynski (visual art, muralist).
3Arts is also beginning two new initiatives to further support Chicago artists: next year’s awards will extend to reach dancers and choreographers, and past awardees will now be able to use the 3Arts website to further raise project support. Unlike similar crowd-funding programs, 3AP features an additional support stream to artists, with up to 1/3 of each project’s total cost contributed by 3Arts.
