Tony Kushner Wins the Puffin/Nation Prize for Creative Citizenship
Kushner won Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Angels in America. Among his other plays are homebody/Kabul, A Bright Room Called Day, Slavs, and The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures. He also has written the librettos for Brundibar and Caroline, or Change as well as the screenplay for Stephen Spielberg's forthcoming film Lincoln.
The prize is awarded by The Nation Institute, a nonprofit media center with ties to Nation magazine, and the Puffin Foundation. Previous recipients of the award, which was established in 2001, include Cecile Richards, Michael Ratner, Jonathan Kozol and Barbara Ehrenreich.
