Children of Eden, Samuel and Alasdair, and More Win 2010 IT Awards

Winners of the 2010 IT Awards (New York Innovative Theatre Awards), celebrating excellence Off-Off-Broadway, were announced at a ceremony tonight at Cooper Union. Lisa Kron hosted the event.

Astoria Performing Arts Center’s production of Stephen Schwartz’s Children of Eden was named Outstanding Production of a Musical, while The Mad Ones’ presentation of Marc Bovino and Joe Curnutte’s Samuel and Alasdair: A Personal History of the Robot War was named Outstanding Production of a Play. Crystal Skillman won in the category of Outstanding Original Full-length Script for The Vigil or The Guided Cradle, while Jonothon Lyons won the Outstanding Original Short Script Award for The Tenement.

Acting winners included Frank Anderson (The Return of Peter Grimm), Amir Darvish (Psych), Elizabeth A. Davis (Emily, An Amethyst Remembrance), and Jennifer Harder (MilkMilkLemonade).

The award for Outstanding Ensemble went to the cast of Samuel and Alasdair (Marc Bovino, Joe Curnutte, Michael Dalto, Stephanie Wright Thompson), while the solo performance award was given to Jesse Zaritt for Binding, with that production also winning for Zaritt’s choreography/movement and as Outstanding Performance Art Production.

As previously reported, the 2010 honorary award recipients include Lanford Wilson (Artistic Achievement Award); Dixon Place (Stewardship Award), and New York Neo-Futurists (Caffe Cino Fellowship Award).
